Our friend Shane Corson organized a campout at the Olympic Project Headquarters for the weekend with some of his friends. We drove up on Thursday to get settled, and Shane helped us find a good spot to park the 5th wheel. I also got to see our friend Larry, who I hadn’t seen in over a year—and a big hug from Larry is always the best!
We hung out at the cabin for a bit and called it a night early. It was a long drive, the rain was steady, and we were tired.
The next day, almost everyone arrived. Because of the endless rain, we mostly hung out at the cabin again. Alan, Sara, and I went for a hike behind the cabin, and even though it was wet, we had a fun time. That night, we all relaxed together—nothing too eventful, but a great evening with friends.
Saturday was supposed to bring better weather, and by mid-afternoon, it finally cleared up. Alan took off mid-morning for a long bike ride while the rest of us got ready for a hike up the mountain to check out some large rock formations Shane had told us about.
The hike was a climb, but we all enjoyed it, and the rock formations were incredible. Shane flew his drone, but the wind kicked up, making it tricky to land. It sensed the conditions were unsafe and wouldn’t come down, so we found a small cove among the rocks for it to land—finally, it set down safely.
The hike back was quick and brisk since it was all downhill. Once we were back at camp, we got ready for a potluck at the cabin. I threw together a pasta salad, and we ended up having another great night hanging out together.
Despite all the rain, we managed to capture some great footage of the Olympic Peninsula and the areas around the cabin. Overall, it was a terrific weekend with good friends, memorable moments, and beautiful scenery.
