Our first outing of the year took place on January 4th, when Alan and I met up with a couple of friends to visit an area recently marked by tragedy. It was the location where two individuals from Portland, known for their interest in Bigfoot research, went missing on Christmas Eve and were later found deceased.
Based on available reports, the pair had hiked approximately a mile up a drainage before turning south, crossing a swollen, waist-deep creek, and continuing uphill. At some point, they became separated by about 700 feet. Both were eventually found in the brush, and authorities concluded that they had passed away due to exposure. It’s a heartbreaking outcome, and our thoughts and deepest condolences are with their families and loved ones during what must be an unimaginably difficult time.
During our visit, we hiked into the drainage ourselves—about half a mile in through roughly eight inches of wet, heavy snow—before deciding to turn back due to the conditions. During the video we speculate what could have happened to the men because no one really knows. We then scouted a nearby campground for a potential future expedition. However, our vehicle wasn’t adequately equipped for the snowy terrain, and one of our friends ended up helping dig us out. It was a strong reminder of how crucial it is to be fully prepared—not only with the proper gear but also with a capable vehicle suited for winter and off-road travel. We’ll be covering those preparedness essentials in more detail in an upcoming video.
